So it has come to my attention, that I harbour special feelings for my computer and all computer related work! Well, let me debunk that myth right here, and right now! I’m just as absent-minded and sloppy when it comes to computers as I am about other stuff. My computer has been complaining about my lack of interest in it as of late, but it’s just the tough times that have made me a bit more irregular.

In other news, the summer continues… I grow fatter by the day, and my brain gets duller with every passing hour!

And a good sign of my being busy is the lack of a new wallpaper! If I don’t have time to browse the local wallpaper repositories, then I probably don’t even have time to do productive work my on overpriced calculator!

Even though I can’t wait to get back to school , I’m not enjoying the prospect of leaving Ottawa. And something else that I’m dreading is getting back into the same apathetic campus life that all of us at Waterloo live. Here is a taste of it. I mean, we call ourselves students, and those kids in South Korea call themselves students too! (Or these Iranian Students) I’m not sure what can be done about it, but the more I think about it, the more I realize how impossible it is to change this situation. It seems like we ,on this side of the globe, are fixated on personal profits. My conclusion : conform!

It’s been a very quiet 2 weeks.. I’ve gotten into the habit of playing soccer and it’s probably helping with my sanity! School is closing in really fast and I still haven’t gotten my project to an acceptable state. I’m thinking I’m gonna go insance around Wednesday and finish it in 2 weeks! But that’s all speculation !!

The 12 hours that I spent outside yesterday were really amazing. Astonishing .. or a similar word would describe it better! It went so well that I think leaving in September will be harder because of it.

And I’ve noticed that I talk too much and don’t act enought, I should see a doctor about that. Maybe even get it fixed!

A trip to the art gallery

Who would’ve thought looking at 17th and 18th century French paintings could be so interesting! Well, I did… to some extent.
But it was more than I thought. It was a nice recap of French history for me, along with some spectacular works of art. It’s an interesting feeling when you look at these works and try and imagine life as the artists tried to depict them.
It’s intereting how the rich and famous of pre-revolution France lived and a quick comparion to how the rich and famous in our society live. There are a lot of parallels, and I sure hope there are more parallels when it comes to how they were overthrown! So, on an early note : Happy Bastille Day!

Again, a new background! But I have to say, this one had to be put up… it’s an amazing piece of art.

The conjoined twins that were undergoing an operation to seperate, died. It’s very sad, but what’s more striking is how determined they must have been to undergo the operation. It’s extremely brave, to try something, where the chances of either of them surviving were slim. And watching their last press conference is very moving, they were both so cheered up and all smiles.
Maybe we all trust modern medicine a little too much.

Gangs of New York

So I got bored with my older background, and I put a new one up.

I watched “Gangs of New York”, and as interesting as it was only the last part of the movie where the riots happen got me thinking. The involvement of the army in putting down riots…. like many other instances of the same thing happening.
There’s no special signifance in my “breakthrough”, just got me thinking. When the Communist state uses the army, it’s in the interest of the people and they’re squashing counter-revolutionary elements. When it’s the Western government (i.e Western Democracies) that do this, it’s in the name of protecting the people (or businesses) from Anarchists elements, or young hoodlooms, or leftists, or hippies, or whatever the flavor of the month is. And the Fascist regimes do it without much explanation. So there’s a dillemma… Does this not mean that the government has turned into a separate entity? One that pursues its own interests!
